Angèle, Isabelle Adjani and Sébastien Tellier, new brand ambassadors for Chanel eyewear
The Belgian singer, whose singles include “Je Veux Tes Yeux” (I Want Your Eyes), fronts the new Chanel eyewear campaign, alongside Pharrell Williams, Isabelle Adjani, Margaret Qualley and Sébastien Tellier. Prepare to go starry-eyed this spring/summer…
Is there no end to Angèle’s talents? As well as dominating the music charts and awards ceremonies (the Victoires de la Musique, the NRJ Music Awards), she’s soon to appear in a Leos Carax film. And this month? The Belgian singer is one of the new faces of the eyewear line from the famous fashion house on Rue Cambon. Having been dressed by the label on fashion shoots and put in an appearance at Cannes last year, the 24-year-old is formalizing her relationship with the brand and has already been invited to attend its catwalk shows. She therefore joins the very exclusive group of Chanel muses and ambassadors that include: Diane Kruger, Catherine Deneuve, Carole Bouquet, Nicole Kidman, Vanessa Paradis, and more recently, Marion Cotillard, Keira Knightley, Lily-Rose Depp and Margot Robbie. But that’s not the only pleasant surprise in the new black and white campaign for Chanel Eyewear, shot by French photographer Karim Sadli. Also among the line-up are musicians Pharrell Williams and Sébastien Tellier, as well as actresses, Isabelle Adjani and Margaret Qualley, who was in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Talk about appealing to both sexes and all generations, especially millennials.
Going Coco
Thanks to songs like “Oui ou Non” and “Balance ton Quoi”, Angèle has amassed 2.6 million followers on Instagram, her every outfit scrutinized by her predominantly Gen Z fans. Until now, Angèle tended to perform in tracksuits, jumpsuits, sneakers and crop tops, but the Chanel campaign has made her an instant fashion icon on another level… In it, she wears a staple Chanel houndstooth jacket, accessorized with multiple pearl necklaces in the style of Coco Chanel herself, her oval glasses setting the tone for the season. But a small detail makes a big difference; glasses chain with Chanel logo confirms all the good things we already thought about this accessory. The fashion house headed by the late Karl Lagerfeld (who was never without his glasses) as Creative Director, has shown it is still at the forefront of fashion trends. This time last year, the brand was already bringing out the multi-strand black and white beads, which were subsequently spotted everywhere. And before Angèle, there was Adwoa Aboah, Kristen Stewart, Lottie Moss and Willow Smith… all wearing resolutely modern and oversize frames. If the spring/summer 2020 campaign is any indication, we’ll either be wearing enormous square glasses with precious detailing, or clear oval frames when the sun comes out. Both styles make an equally stylish statement.
